[PATCH v5 21/42] namei: prepare for idmapped mounts

Christian Brauner christian.brauner at ubuntu.com
Tue Jan 12 22:01:03 UTC 2021

The various vfs_*() helpers are called by filesystems or by the vfs
itself to perform core operations create, link, mkdir, mknod, rename,
rmdir, tmpfile and unlink. Enable them to handle idmapped mounts. If the
inode is accessed through an idmapped mount it is mapped according to
the mount's user namespace. Afterwards the checks and operations are
identical to non-idmapped mounts. If the initial user namespace is
passed nothing changes so non-idmapped mounts will see identical
behavior as before.

/* v2 */
- Christoph Hellwig <hch at lst.de>:
  - Don't pollute the vfs with additional helpers simply extend the existing
    helpers with an additional argument and switch all callers.

/* v3 */
unchanged

/* v4 */
- Serge Hallyn <serge at hallyn.com>:
  - Use "mnt_userns" to refer to a vfsmount's userns everywhere to make
    terminology consistent.
